My Pets

This is a short introduction to my Whippets who are Madiba and Allegra and my Burmese cat called CoCo. They are great friends and I have a great deal of fun watching their interaction. Hope you enjoy the pictures, I will tell you more about them in the future!

Artistic Books

I have recently become interested in Artistic books. Living in Cape Town, South Africa, I have not found many people in this town who are pursuing this hobby, and I would love to communicate with others. Maybe I could interest other people in Cape Town to join me in this pastime!

Let me tell you what Artistic Books are all about. They are home made books created using a wide range of artistic and craft techniques. Basically there are no rules, and the more weird and wonderful and original your work, the more interesting it will be to the cognascenti.

Any material is permisable. This includes cloth, paper, wire, beads, wood, metal, cotton, wool - you name the material, and it is acceptable. Techniques include painting, embossing, sticking, decoupage, knitting, sewing, embroidery, passermenterie, inclusion of found objects. So there is lots of scope for imaginative and creative input.

The structure of the book can be equally varied. In fact old books can be reconstructed, cut, remodelled, augmented, embellished. So come on all you inventive people out there - lets see what we can do.

I was initiated into the techniques of blogging today at the University of Cape Town Summer School. I will now have the opportunity to let all my friends, family and contacts know about my latest thoughts and activities.
